What Does the 'Estimated GBP' Figure Mean?

Learn how Yeeld estimates the value of your connected accounts in Pounds Sterling and why the amount may differ from the exact value of your foreign currency accounts.

What Does the 'Estimated GBP' Figure Mean?

If you've connected accounts that hold money in currencies other than Pounds Sterling (GBP), you may notice an Estimated GBP figure displayed on your Home or Accounts screen.

This gives you an approximate value of all your connected account balances converted into Pounds Sterling, making it easier to understand your overall financial position at a glance.

How Is It Calculated?

Yeeld uses a live exchange rate to convert the balances of your connected foreign currency accounts into GBP.

These converted balances are then added together with your GBP balances to produce a single estimated total.

Because exchange rates change throughout the day, this figure is intended as a guide rather than an exact value.

Why Is It Only an Estimate?

The Estimated GBP value may change even if you haven't spent or received any money.

This is because exchange rates fluctuate throughout the day, meaning the GBP value of your foreign currency balances will also change.

For this reason, the Estimated GBP figure should only be used as an indication of your overall holdings.

Are My Transactions Converted?

No.

Individual transactions remain in their original currency.

Yeeld does not convert transactions for spending insights or Penny AI, as we do not hold the exact exchange rate that applied when each transaction took place.

Keeping transactions in their original currency helps ensure your insights remain accurate.

What About Penny AI and Insights?

Penny AI and your spending insights always treat different currencies separately.

If you have accounts in multiple currencies:

  • Penny will discuss each currency individually.
  • Spending insights are grouped by currency.
  • Where available, you can select a specific currency to view insights for that currency alone.

This avoids inaccurate reporting caused by fluctuating exchange rates.

In Summary

The Estimated GBP figure provides a convenient way to see the approximate value of all your connected account balances in one currency.

It uses live exchange rates and is intended as an estimate only, while your transactions, insights and Penny AI continue to keep different currencies separate for maximum accuracy.
